Soft Clay Were Frenchman,
synthetic polymer paint on canvas
110 x 174 cm
$8,000

ARTISTS STATEMENT

This soft clay … in language we call it touintee. There’s two kinds of touintee.
san’beach w’re Oldsite … that’s one kind … it’s not so bright. You go along the
beach past the old Bora ground … you find it there where it’s sandy.

The inland touintee w’re Frenchman … that’s really bright. We use it for ceremony
and dance … body paint. Before time, the old people used it for traditional marking.
