TERMS & CONDITIONS OF PADDINGTON ART PRIZE 2008

  1. The prize money of $20,000 is to be awarded to the artist of the single winning entry, for the ACQUISITIVE PRIZE, of a painting inspired by the Australian Landscape, painted in the last 12 months and not previously
    exhibited at an art prize exhibition.
  2. The additional NON ACQUISITIVE prize off ered by the UNSW COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS will be awarded to a selected artist, giving them the opportunity to create a limited edition print.
  3. The PADDINGTON ART PRIZE is open to all Australian citizens or residents for at least 12 months who are over the age of 18 years. Finalists may need to provide identifi cation if requested.
  4. Employees of Marlene Antico Fine Arts and members of their
    immediate families are ineligible to enter.
  5. Paintings must be delivered to MARY PLACE GALLERY, 12 Mary Place Paddington Sydney on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th November 2008 between 11am-6pm.
    NO CRATES PLEASE.
  6. A $40 (incl. gst) handling fee shall be paid for each work entered. Entry forms not accompanied by the entry fee will not be eligible for the competition. Payment can be by cheque, credit card, cash or money order made payable to The Paddington Art Prize. Unless requested, receipts will not be mailed.
  7. A limit of two works per artist can be submitted with an entry fee of $75 (incl. GST).
  8. Entry fee is non-refundable and contributes to administration and
    handling.
  9. Works must not be larger than 1.5 x 2 metres including frame (or
    equivalent size/area ratio). A work can consist of multiple parts but must not exceed overall size limits. Media used may be oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media/collage.
  10. Works must be CLEARLY MARKED on the reverse with the artist’s name, address, contact details, the title of the work, medium, size and the current retail price (incl. GST); all paintings must be available for sale.
  11. Marlene Antico Fine Arts and its agents will exercise all due care
    with the works submitted, but will not be responsible for any loss or damage suff ered whatsoever to any work while in transit or under its control. Each entrant shall indemnify Marlene Antico Fine Arts, the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE and agents against loss or damage suff ered to his/her work. Each artist is responsible for his/her own insurance cover.
  12. All artists selected as fi nalists authorise Marlene Antico Fine Arts, formally and irrevocably, to publish their works free of copyright, totally or partly, in all publications (catalogues, folders, posters, slide shows, brochures etc) related to this competition, as well as on the offi cial website. Marlene Antico Fine Arts will retain exclusive copyright of the winning entry for a period of 12 months from 7 November 2008.
  13. Marlene Antico Fine Arts reserves the right to exhibit the selected finalists’ work for the exhibition period. All exhibited works not sold during this period must be collected on Sunday the 23rd of November between 4 and 5pm or on Monday 24th November before 10am sharp, from MARY PLACE GALLERY, Mary Place, Paddington NSW 2021.
  14. The artist appoints Marlene Antico Fine Arts as the sole and exclusive agent of the painting entered into the Prize for a period of three months from the date of the close of the exhibition. The Paddington Art Prize commission is 40% of which 10% may be paid at the joint discretion of the artist and the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE, only to an artists’ sole representative agent.
  15. The judges’ decision is fi nal on all aspects of awarding the Prizes, and no correspondence or appeal will be entered into or considered.
  16. A decision by a majority of the judges on any issue shall be deemed to be a valid and binding decision of the judges as a whole.
  17. Successful applicants will be notifi ed on Wednesday 7 November 2008 (evening) via phone or e-mail. The list will be published in the Sydney Morning Herald on Thursday 8 November in the public notices section and www.paddingtonartprize.com.au.
  18. All NON SELECTED PAINTINGS must be collected between
    Thursday 6 November to Monday 10 November 2008 between 11am to 6pm (Sunday 12-5pm) from the MARY PLACE GALLERY, 12 Mary Place, Paddington at the artist’s cost. If an artist fails or omits to collect their work from the venue by November 10, 2008 by 6pm, as provided in these conditions, the Paddington Art Prize will sell or otherwise dispose of the work unless other arrangements have been reached with Marlene Antico.
  19. Freight costs and all other charges relating to delivery and
    collection of artworks entered into the Paddington Art Prize are the sole responsibility of the artist. Artworks will not be accepted unless delivered and returned free of all freight and other charges.
  20. Entries will be accepted no later than 6pm on the 4th November
    2008. It is recommended that entry forms and payment are submitted
    prior to the delivery day to avoid waiting periods for the processing of application forms.
  21. All applicants must sign the declaration before a J.P., solicitor, police officer or bank manager for their entry to be valid.
  22. All personal information gathered by Marlene Antico Fine Arts and the PADDINGTON ART PRIZE will be used solely for administration purposes.

*Please note: Paintings together with the entry forms may be delivered in person on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th of November from 11:00- 6:00 pm.
Postal or email entry forms close on Monday 27th October.

Judging Date
Wednesday 5 November 2008
Only Artists whose works are selected for the finalist exhibition will be advised by phone or email after 6pm.
Collection dates for non-finalist artworks
Thursday 6 to Saturday 9 November 11am to 6pm ans Sunday 10 November 12 pm to 5 pm.
Official Opening and Prize Giving
Wednesday 12 November 2008, 6 pm – 8 pm at Mary Place Gallery, 12 Mary Place, Paddington NSW 2021
To be opened by Professor Ian Howard, Dean of the UNSW, College of Fine Arts.
